The Vic Theatre is bringing back ‘Fright Fest’ this October, and will be presenting some bone-chilling horror films, some goofy Halloween romps and some cult classics.
This six-film event features a little bit of something for everyone, whether you’re a scream queen or a horror junkie, Fright Fest will give you goosebumps and hopefully a good laugh at some point.
Fright Fest’s first film, Gremlins 2: The New Batch, will be on Sunday, October 5th, at 7:30 p.m. This 1990 cult classic is a campy sequel to the beloved 1984 Gremlins.
“We look forward to the spooky month every year. Programming it is one of the greatest treats, the crowd’s energy is electric, and we often tie-in our patrons’ suggestions so it’s exciting to see their reaction as they watch their childhood/teen faves on the big screen,” said Kiana Karimkhani, Manager and Programmer of the Vic Theatre.
“We’re starting off Fright Fest with Gremlins 2, a fun (not-so-frightening) addition that speaks to the zany magic of the ’90s. It’s the 35th-anniversary and a third film is in development, which shows how the film’s legacy has persisted (anyone else have a Furby?).”
Following Gremlins 2: The New Batch, Fright Fest will be showing Evil Dead 2, the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Donnie Darko, before the festival comes to a climax on October 31st, with a showing of John Carpenter’s classic Halloween.
“Once we knew Halloween fell on a Friday this year, we knew we had to go big. Seeing the original Halloween ON Halloween in a cozy fully licensed theatre, is there a better way to celebrate,” asked Karimkhani.
“We’re screening the best restored and remastered version so come commemorate The Night HE Came Home [sic] with us!”
