Crash involving cyclist and semi-truck in Saanich causing major traffic disruptions

A cyclist was seriously injured after crashing into the back of a commercial vehicle in Saanich Saturday morning.

Traffic remains heavily impacted at the intersection of Saanich Road and Douglas Street following a collision between a cyclist and a commercial vehicle Saturday morning.

According to Saanich Police, the cyclist was travelling southbound in the northbound lanes when they collided with the rear of the commercial vehicle. The cyclist suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital.

Police and collision analysts are continuing their investigation. Police are advising the public to avoid the intersection as traffic disruptions are expected to continue.

Traffic is being heavily impacted in the area of Saanich Road and Douglas Street following a collision between a semi-truck and a cyclist Saturday morning.

According to witnesses, the cyclist’s bike appeared to be severely damaged. The extent of the cyclist’s injuries remains unknown at this time.

Several roads in the area are currently blocked off, with no access to Saanich Road between Oak Street and Douglas Street as investigators remain on scene.

As of 10:30 a.m., the investigation is ongoing.
