Amazon is preparing for the busy holiday shopping season and plan to hire over 7,000 seasonal employees across Canada, with more than 30 of those jobs located in Victoria.
The company says hiring will take place in phases starting this month and into December.
There will be positions available at its delivery station in Victoria and at fulfillment and sortation centers across the country.
Seasonal jobs usually involve stowing, picking, packing, sorting, and shipping customer orders.
To make the offer more appealing, Amazon is putting more than $110 million into employee wages this year.
The average hourly base wage for eligible frontline staff has increased to $24.50, which is about a four percent rise from 2024. Full-time employees now begin with a minimum annual salary of just under $51,000.
By the end of this year, Amazon will also roll out a new perk, free Prime memberships for eligible frontline employees. That means staff will have access to the same suite of benefits customers enjoy, from fast delivery and Prime Video to Amazon Music, Prime Reading, and more.
Chuck Cummings, Director of Customer Fulfilment at Amazon Canada, said the company is proud to offer competitive wages and long-term opportunities
“By creating thousands of new seasonal roles and investing in compensation and workplace benefits, we’re providing meaningful employment opportunities that can lead to long-term careers at Amazon,” he said.
Local job seekers can apply for the Victoria positions and others across Canada by visiting hiring.amazon.ca. Seasonal jobs often fill quickly, with many employees going on to secure permanent positions after the holidays.
