Get ready for a night that’s eerie, beautiful, and a little spine-tingling!
Pacific Opera Victoria is diving into the ghostly world of Henry James’ The Turn of the Screw, bringing Benjamin Britten’s chilling opera to life at the Royal Theatre later this month.
Performances run October 22nd, 24th, 26th and 28th, and promise to keep audiences on edge from the first note to the last.
The story follows a young governess sent to a remote English estate to care for two orphaned children.
But as she settles in, strange things start to happen and she begins to wonder whether she’s losing her grip on reality or if something far darker is at play.
With its twisting score and haunting melodies, Britten’s music perfectly captures the tension between innocence and corruption, fear and fascination.
Directed by Michael Shamata and conducted by Giuseppe Pietraroia, this production features a standout Canadian cast, including Kirsten MacKinnon as the governess and Isaiah Bell as the mysterious Peter Quint.
“This piece really blurs the line between the supernatural and the psychological,” Pacific Opera Victoria shares. “It’s a story that keeps you thinking long after the curtain falls.”
The show’s intimate setting and eerie tone make it a perfect fit for fall, especially if you’re in the mood for something hauntingly beautiful.
Tickets are available through the Royal & McPherson Theatres Society (RMTS), and with limited performances, early booking is a good idea.
Whether you’re an opera fan or just love a good ghost story, The Turn of the Screw promises a night of suspense and stunning music you won’t forget.
