Victoria’s Bay Street Bridge to close eastbound lane for up to four months

Share

If you routinely use the Bay Street Bridge as your route to get into downtown Victoria, your commute could be significantly impacted this Fall.

According to City of Victoria, they will be making upgrades to the Point Ellice Bridge (more commonly known as the Bay Street Bridge) that will close eastbound traffic 24/7 for up to four months.

Work will include replacing the main deck joint that allows the bridge to expand and shrink with temperature changes, and crews will also be improving the 65-year-old drainage system.

The City says work is expected to be completed in early 2026.

Though eastbound vehicle traffic will be affected, cyclists and pedestrians will still have an avenue to cross—westbound traffic will remain open, and pedestrian and wheelchair access will be maintained at all times.

Detours will also be available.
