Great news for playground frequent flyers!
The Maynard Park playground in Saanich’s Cadboro Bay neighbourhood is officially open after a grand opening ceremony this past weekend, ready to be enjoyed by all.
The previous play equipment at Maynard Park was originally installed in 2003, and was identified as a priority upgrade due to its age, condition, and other considerations including safety, design, accessibility, drainage and location.
As for the new playground, it includes a compact climbing structure suitable for ages 5-12, also featuring a climbing net.
There’s also a separate treehouse structure which is geared towards ages 2-5 and includes a tunnel.
Other upgrades include a friendship swing, a bouncer, a canoe for imaginative play, and a natural play area with logs, boulders, and sensory gardens around existing shade trees.
When it comes to accessibility, ramp access, transfer stations on play structures, and equipment designed for children of all abilities have been improved.
“It was wonderful to see people of all ages join us at the park to celebrate this new playground, which offers more modern, sustainable and accessible features for kids and families to enjoy,” says Saanich Mayor Dean Murdock.
“Saanich is blessed with more than 170 parks, including Maynard Park. Upgrading our playgrounds and other public amenities is just one of the ways the District is bringing people together and strengthening community connections.”
