Reddit users puzzled by talk of ‘Deerland Museum’ opening near Mayfair

A sign has appeared outside the former Bed Bath & Beyond site across from Mayfair Shopping Centre announcing “Coming Soon: Deerland Children’s Museum Victoria,” leaving many residents puzzled.

The sign, which features a logo similar to Disneyland’s, has quickly become a topic of discussion on Reddit.

Several users mocked the design and questioned the authenticity of the project. Some even suggested it could be a set for a movie production.

“I think the Disney corporation might have something to say about their logo,” said one commenter, while another remarked, “They’ve murdered for less.”

Others dismissed the design as amateurish. One said, “This screams Canva. Like those Cricut moms that think they’re artists.” Some users speculated that this could be a scam.

The site has seen several short-lived ventures in recent years.

After Bed Bath & Beyond closed, a company called Rooms + Spaces opened there in August 2023, selling similar home goods. However, within months, the business began shutting down locations due to financial troubles, lease defaults, and a challenging retail environment.

Since then, the building has remained empty, attracting graffiti and serving as a visible reminder of changing consumer habits. The sudden appearance of fencing and a Deerland sign has now sparked both curiosity and doubt.

An online search yields no information about Deerland Children’s Museum Victoria. There are no websites, social media accounts, or official announcements linked to the project.

Amid the jokes and criticism, some residents pointed out a real need in the community.

Since the popular indoor play space Tumblebums closed during the pandemic, families have had few options for indoor recreation.

“It would be great if there was an indoor play space for young children,” one Redditor commented.

For now, the Deerland sign remains the only hint of what might be planned for the site.
