RCMP investigate wristband fraud at Nickelback concert on Vancouver Island

Lake Cowichan RCMP are investigating a case of fake wristbands being sold at Nickelback’s sold-out Laketown Amphitheatre concert, one of Vancouver Island’s biggest shows.

Police have confirmed that multiple concert attendees lost money through the wristband fraud when they bought fake entry bracelets from a man present at the concert.

The fake bands turned out to be invalid which prevented victims from entering the event.

Event security personnel helped officers identify the suspect who was then taken into custody. The individual received a court date for which he was set free from custody.

Investigators estimate that multiple concert attendees have not yet reported their fraud losses even though some victims have already contacted authorities.

Lake Cowichan RCMP requests anyone who obtained a wristband through suspicious means or possesses information about the investigation to call 250-749-6668.

The August 9th concert featuring Nickelback and Sam Roberts and The Glorious Sons marked their first Vancouver Island performance in over twenty years while attracting thousands of fans who deemed it a historic live music event for the Island.
