RCMP are continuing to receive several reports of a prowler in central and south Nanaimo which began in early August.
In the most recent incident, when a resident came back to their ground floor apartment early on September 16th, they found a man on their patio, looking into their windows.
The suspect fled before the police arrived and was not found.
“These incidents continue to be priority files as they are causing concern in our community,” said Reserve Const. Gary O’Brien, spokesperson for the Nanaimo RCMP.
“Patrol officers have increased their presence in the affected areas and investigators are actively following up on leads.”
Police have received similar calls since early August with most incidents happen late at night, although some occur during the day.
Reports often describe a man hanging around private property and looking into windows.
RCMP are reminding residents to keep doors, windows, and gates locked at night, to use outdoor lighting and motion sensors, and to call 911 right away if they observe any suspicious activity. They are also asking homeowners to check security camera footage and share any helpful recordings with investigators.
“These types of incidents can be very unsettling for residents,” O’Brien added. “We want to assure the public that these reports are being taken seriously, and we encourage anyone who observes suspicious activity to contact us right away.”
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the prowler is asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
