Nanaimo RCMP have arrested one adult and three youths following an alleged vehicular theft this past weekend.
The incident resulted in one victim, a 21-year-old man, being stabbed.
Police say that the incident occurred on Sunday, August 31st, at around 12:30 a.m., in the parking lot of an apartment building located in the 6400-block of Portsmouth Road.
According to investigators, the victim reported that he was standing near his vehicle when he was approached by one youth and one adult.
Following an altercation with the suspects, the victim was left stabbed and his vehicle was stolen.
Police say they obtained a description of the vehicle and suspects, located both around an hour after the incident.
When the vehicle was located, the four occupants, three youths and one adult, were arrested and transported to the Nanaimo RCMP detachment.
Later on Sunday, police released two of the youths on an undertaking with multiple conditions of release.
However, the 16-year-old youth and 26-year-old man who were initially involved were remanded into police custody.
Both individuals will appear in Nanaimo Provincial Court later this week.
“Police believe the stabbing was unprovoked, and there is no known connection between the victim and suspects,” said R/Cst Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.
According to Nanaimo RCMP, the victim’s stolen wallet was located later on Sunday by an unidentified person who returned it to them.
Now, police are attempting to locate the individual who returned the wallet to the victim in order to speak with them.
