A popular downtown eatery is set to close for good next week.
The operators of Menbow Ramen Bar, which is located in the 1000-block of Blanshard Street, have posted a farewell note on the restaurant’s door.
The closure will take effect on September 15th.
“Thank you and farewell, our restaurant will be closing on September 15th. We sincerely thank you for your support and patronage,” the message reads.
Menbow has been a part of downtown Victoria’s dining scene for nearly a decade.
It served authentic Japanese ramen made with imported ingredients and recipes from Japan. The restaurant gained its reputation by offering both chicken broth and pork bone broth, with choices including shio, shoyu, miso, spicy miso, and vegetarian tomato ramen.
While this closure represents the loss of another downtown food spot—following the recent ending of Azuma Sushi’s more than two-decade run on Broad Street. Menbow encourages customers to continue visiting its other Victoria locations at Mayfair and Hillside shopping centres.
Not all of downtown’s food scene is shrinking. There’s talk that the former Yates Street Taphouse at Yates and Blanshard could soon reopen as a game bar, with operators now applying for a liquor primary licence.
