A group of teens were arrested Thursday morning after a stolen pickup truck was found abandoned in Sidney.
The Sidney/North Saanich RCMP report the break-in and theft of a 2021 Dodge Ram began just before 1 a.m. on September 25th, after a resident reported the vehicle was stolen during the night.
Shortly after that, Saanich Police received several calls regarding the same vehicle after it was seen being driven erratically. At the time it could not be located.
Police were called again at about 8:20 a.m. to respond to a report of a truck stuck in the spit area of the Tsawout community. Witnesses reported seeing four youth run from the area.
Minutes later, a 911 call was received from a resident on Mt Newton Cross Road, reporting that someone had attempted to steal a vehicle from their driveway.
Police quickly located the suspects and arrested them.
Following the arrest, police were contacted about a number of vehicles at Ebanks Auto Sales on Galaran Road in Sidney had also been vandalized in the area, with a combined loss estimated at over $20,000. Police believe the incidents are connected.
“Residents are reminded that vehicle thefts and vandalism in Sidney/North Saanich have risen in recent months, and owners are urged not to leave valuables or keys in vehicles,” RCMP said in a news release.
