As kids and parents alike geared up for the first day of school today, fond memories of the un-official “last days” of summer are still fresh in their minds.

For 157 years, the beloved Saanich Fair has marked the “last hurrah” before families return to the hustle and bustle of busy Septembers.

Vancouver Island’s largest fair drew massive crowds as always, a mix of ride-loving thrill-seekers, families eager to visit farm animals, and foodies hankering for their last taste of corndogs and cotton candy of the summer.

As always, the midway was full of brightly-lit rides and games, while the fair offered other activities for the more faint of heart, such as features on agriculture along with plenty of live entertainment.
