A 22-year-old woman was hospitalized Saturday night after being struck by an open can of beer thrown from a moving vehicle near Lake Cowichan.
Police said a group of four people were walking in the area of Youbou and Meades Creek roads around 11:30 p.m. on August 9th, shortly after the Nickelback concert at Laketown Ranch.
The group was heading toward a residence on Meades Creek Road when the incident occurred.
According to Riley Smith, who shared an account of the incident on social media, the group was walking on the opposite side of the road from concert traffic when a lifted black Dodge pickup truck with silver rims approached at high speed.
An arm extended from the passenger-side window and threw an object, later identified as an open can of Bud Light Apple, striking the woman.
RCMP said the impact caused the woman to suffer a medical emergency.
Friends and bystanders performed life-saving first aid, including CPR, until paramedics arrived. She was transported to hospital, where she remained in stable condition as of Sunday.
The suspect vehicle did not stop and has not been located. The investigation is ongoing.
Police are asking anyone with information, CCTV, or dash cam footage of the incident to contact Lake Cowichan RCMP at 250-749-6668.
