Suspect in Dry Creek Park murder arrested and charged: Port Alberni RCMP

Port Alberni RCMP have arrested a suspect in connection with an alleged homicide which took place in Dry Creek Park on June 16th. 

Police apprehended William Shane Watts on Thursday, August 7th, and the following day, he was officially charged with murder by the BC Prosecution Service. 

Watts will reportedly remain in custody as he awaits a court date. 

Though charges have been laid, Port Alberni RCMP say investigators will continue to seek information and witnesses in connection with the incident. 

On the day of the alleged homicide, June 16th, police say they were called to Dry Creek Park at around 5:41 p.m. after receiving reports of a deceased person in the park. 

When officers arrived, they found a body with visible injuries. Investigators were brought to the scene, who worked alongside the BC Coroners Service to determine how the individual died.  

Though police confirmed the identity of the deceased during their investigation, their name has still not been released to the public at this time.
