The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) are seeking witnesses to an incident where one man was arrested and appeared to have a self-inflicted injury.

The incident took place on April 20th at around 12:40 p.m., where they arrested a man near his home in the Sherwood Forest area.

According to police, there was an interaction between the man and responding officers during the arrest, and they allegedly noted an injury that appeared to have been self-inflicted.

He was taken to the hospital for treatment, and due to the nature of the situation, an investigation was launched by the Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO).

The IIO states that the man’s injury met the threshold of serious harm, and the investigators continue to examine any connection between the harm and the police action/inaction.

This investigation is to determine whether there are reasonable grounds to believe that an offence may have occurred.

If there are any witnesses that have not already provided a statement, or have video footage of the incident, contact the IIO at 1-855-446-8477 or on their website.

The IIO is the civilian oversight agency of the police in BC, who investigate all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death.

Their job is to determine whether or not there is any wrongdoing on the police officers’ part when an incident of serious harm or death occurs.
