A lucky Saanichton resident is making big plans after winning $675,000 in the Set for Life draw.

According to a BCLC media release, John Hersmen rushed home immediately after learning he’d won the massive prize.

“I checked my ticket on the self-scanner at the retailer, and then gave it to the retailer to check,” recalled Hermsen.

“I went home right after I won to tell my girlfriend. I told her, ‘We’re set for life!’”

When asked what he plans to do with his winnings, Hermsen said that he plans to purchase a boat and truck, as well as help his family. Additionally, he’d like to travel to either Belize or Fiji!

“It’s surreal. This win will make things more comfortable,” he said.

The winning ticket was purchased at a 7-Eleven located on Mount Newton Cross Road in Saanichton.

So far in 2025, BC lottery players have redeemed more than $7 million in Set for Life prizes.
