This weekend was just as fun as it was hot at Phillips Backyard’s ‘Reverb’ music festival!
The organizers kept the same layout as July’s ‘Tilt’ festival, with a food truck alley, two bathroom areas, an activity area complete with shade and couches, three water stations and Phillips Brewing Company’s beer flowing throughout the grounds.
Another welcome addition was this year’s BC Music stage, allowing more bands to play throughout the festival, some local bands to be highlighted and there were no gaps between the acts on the main stage.
The weekend was kicked off on Friday with DJ Boitano welcoming the early-comers before Layton Kraymer took the main stage.
Next up was the mustache clad outfit Uncle Strut before the BC Music stage was kicked off by Antonio Larosia.
Mac Sabbath then put on one of the most memorable and chaotic performances Phillips Backyard had ever seen, complete with a bat getting its head bit off and hamburger balls.
Hometown heroes, Pony Gold then performed the BC Music Stage before Ruby Waters played to the crowd who sang along with every anthem she sang.
Kate Yahn closed out the BC Music stage, and then Peach Pit put on a show to remember.
Day two was no less lively than day one of Reverb.
The sister duo, Vox Rea kicked off the lineup of stellar bands, then Diamond Cafe followed them up.
Day two saw Clare Twiddy, Cam Blake and Emmet Jerome on the BC Music stage
On the main stage, Dragonette, Borns 60 performed before Phantogram closed things out with an incredibly lively performance.
Last but not least, day three of Reverb brought plenty of renowned talent into Phillips Backyard.
First up was Terell Safadi, who even brought up two guest performers—one of whom was the controversial Mr. Esquimalt.
Prado Monroe brought the energy up and had the crowd laughing along with her jokes as she captivated the audience with her music and wholesome vibe.
Then, Ivan Hartle started things up at the BC Music stage, just as the afternoon was heating up to full blast.
Through the music and in between sets the crowd flocked to the water stations, the misters and the beer truck, as security, first aid and harm reduction crews kept an eye on everyone to ensure people were staying safe in the sun.
King Cruff kept the energy alive in the sweltering heat with a fast, fun performance before Zada was up on the BC Music stage to chill things out a bit.
Then, Danielle Ponder blew the crowds’ collective minds with the voice of a soulful angel and she closed out her set with a jaw-dropping cover of Radiohead’s iconic song “Creep,” putting the original version of the song to shame.
And finally, the home-stretch. Kapok closed out the BC Music stage before The Roots took the main stage for one last ride.
And with that, another season of fun in Phillips Backyard has come to a close until next year!
