One of Victoria’s only 2SLGBTQIA+-owned bars and eateries, Friends of Dorothy, was vandalized this week, as someone smashed their front window late at night.

The incident occurred at around 1:29 a.m. on Tuesday, August 19th, and the suspected vandal was caught on CCTV footage.

Police responded in the morning at around 9:30 a.m. and have since launched an investigation into the matter.

“It’s tough, we don’t know if this was random vandalization or a targeted antilgbtq2s+ attack,” wrote Friends of Dorothy management in a social media post.

“Thanks to the community that’s already stepped in and helped us make sure we’ve stayed on our feet! Our spirit is a little shaken, but we’ve got new glass coming and we can’t be intimidated.”

Though Friends of Dorothy closed for the day, they are now back open and operating normally.

Additionally, the eatery and police are asking anyone who may have information on the incident to call VicPD and report what they know.
