A major new grocery option is coming to Langford as FreshCo prepares to open its first Vancouver Island location at Westshore Town Centre.

The Canadian discount grocery chain will take over approximately 38,000 square feet of anchor space within the mall, with construction already underway and doors expected to open in early 2026.

“We’re very excited to welcome a well-regarded brand like FreshCo to Westshore Town Centre,” said Tara Brockelmann, Senior Vice President, Retail Leasing at QuadReal Property Group.

“This exciting addition reflects our ongoing commitment to providing variety and convenience to local shoppers.”

The new FreshCo will move into the space previously occupied by Fairway Market, which closed in July 2025 after operating in the shopping centre for 36 years.

Tony McGrath, Vice President Operations, Discount at Sobeys Inc., says the Langford location marks a meaningful step in FreshCo’s continued expansion across Western Canada.

“This new store underscores our commitment to the community and to lowering food prices for Canadians,” said McGrath.

“At FreshCo, we stand for value, freshness, and the diverse communities we serve.”

FreshCo currently operates more than 150 locations across five provinces and is known for its focus on affordability and fresh products.

FreshCo is owned by Sobeys Inc., the same parent company behind Thrifty Foods.

Details about the Langford store’s grand opening will be shared closer to the launch.
