VicPD has confirmed that charges have been sworn against a suspect regarding an alleged bank robbery in downtown Victoria.

On August 19th at around 10:45 a.m., a man reportedly entered a bank in the 1100-block of Douglas Street and demanded money.

VicPD did not specify which bank was targeted, but Coast Capital and CIBC both have branches in the 1100-block of Douglas Street.

Police said that no weapons were involved, and the man was able to leave with a “substantial amount” of money.

Around six hours later, a man that matched the description of the suspect was located and subsequently arrested in the downtown area.

Police say they were able to recover and seize the substantial amount of money found on the suspect.

43-year-old Josue Raul Zuria has now been charged with one count of robbery and remains detained by the court. His next court appearance is scheduled for September 11th.

As the matter is now before the courts, no further details can be provided at this time.
