BC Aviation Museum to offer chance for tours of historic Hawaii Mars water bomber

Share

At the BC Aviation Museum’s open house this weekend, attendees will have the chance to see the massive and historic Hawaii Mars water bomber.

Furthermore, attendees will be able to enter into a lottery system to have the chance to get onboard the Hawaii Mars for a full tour, which is still being planned for a later date.

The Hawaii Mars has been at the BC Aviation Museum, which will be the aircraft’s final resting place, since August 2024.

It was originally built in the 1940s to be used by the United States during the Second World War. Following the war, in the 1960s, the Hawaii Mars was converted into a firefighting aircraft.

This massive aircraft’s wingspan measures in at 61 metres, and it is able to drop an astonishing 27,000 litres of water on fires at a time.

Attendees of the BC Aviation Museum’s open house will have the opportunity to see this behemoth up close and personal, and by entering the museum’s lottery, may even get to explore the aircraft’s innards.

Those who can’t make the open house will be able to enter the lottery via email, which the BC Aviation Museum says they will share more details about in the coming weeks.

In addition to seeing the Hawaii Mars and entering the lottery, those in attendance will also be able to see and learn about the myriad of other aircrafts housed at the museum.

There will also be food trucks on site and parachuter performances throughout the day.

The open house will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 23rd and Sunday, August 24th. Admission to the open house is by donation.
