Make the most of your Friday, Victoria!

Even though we’re steadily reaching the end of August, there’s still plenty of summer fun left to be had.

Highlights include the Harbour Blues ‘n Roots Festival, a DJ dance party and more incredible show’s from this year’s Fringe Festival.

Plus, there’s a couple of free outdoor movies to pick from, so be sure to pack a picnic and something cozy before you head down!

Harbour Blues ‘n Roots Festival 2025

At Harbour Blues ‘n Roots Festival 2025, some of the biggest names in the business will be coming down to Victoria’s Ship Point in the Inner Harbour from Friday, August 22nd to Sunday, August 24th.

The big names who will be gracing the stage at Ship Point will be The Harpoonist & The Axe Murderer, Shemekia Copeland and Bywater Call. Those prestigious acts will be joined by local bands Wet Future, James Vickers Band and Slim Sandy’s Atomic Cocktails.

Victoria Fringe Festival

This year marks the 39th annual Victoria Fringe Festival, which hits the city on Wednesday, August 20th and runs until Sunday, August 31st.

That’s 12 days with 150 performances from 35 local, national and international artists across nine different venues—featuring five traditional stages and four unconventional spaces.

The Fringe always brings a burst of creative energy to the city’s atmosphere, and this year is no exception. There will be everything from dance and comedy to drama, spoken word and site-specific shows.

and many more!

Free Outdoor Movie

Back by popular demand, Esquimalt Parks and Recreation has launched their Summer Outdoor Movie series again!

This week’s screening will feature the rescheduled showing of Encanto, which is a charming film that focuses on the Madrigals. They’re an extraordinary family, and the magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift from super strength to the power to heal every child except one, Mirabel.

Bring a chair, some blankets and some snacks, and get comfy! Country Crepes will be on site as well.

DJ Party at The Downbeat

Looking to dance the night away?

Gather your pals and head downtown to The Downbeat and party with an epic lineup of DJs, including Lyssa, J-Feud, Mr. Moe.

Free-B Film Festival: King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962)

The 26th annual Free-B Film Festival, a series of free outdoor movie screenings, is returning this Friday!

Rediscover an old childhood favourite, or introduce yourself and friends to a classic gem for the first time—either way, unwind and enjoy the magic of the movies in the fresh air!

Friday’s screening will feature King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962).
