A serious crash on Sooke Road over the BC Day long weekend has claimed the life of a 34-year-old woman.
Just after 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 3rd, West Shore RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision near the 2900-block of Sooke Road in Langford.
According to police, a grey 2008 Hyundai Elantra was travelling westbound when it crossed the centre line and struck a white 2019 Toyota Avalon head-on.
Despite the efforts of first responders, the driver of the Hyundai died at the scene. Police say she was a 34-year-old woman. Her name has not been released.
The driver and passenger of the Toyota Avalon were taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash forced the closure of Sooke Road between Humpback Road and West Shore Parkway for several hours while emergency crews attended and traffic analysts investigated. The road reopened around 8 p.m.
RCMP say the investigation is ongoing and are asking anyone who was travelling along Sooke Road between Jacklin Avenue and the 2900-block between 3:50 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. to check their dash cam footage—especially if it may have captured the Hyundai Elantra travelling westbound before the collision.
Anyone with footage or information is asked to call West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264.
