Comox Valley RCMP are investigating a collision that claimed the life of an 83-year-old woman.

On Tuesday, July 15th at 3:38 p.m., police were called to the 1800-block of Anderton Road after a collision between a cyclist and a tractor-trailer.

Despite immediate life-saving action taken by bystanders and emergency services, the cyclist passed away as a result of her injuries.

Police closed the road to traffic for several hours while the collision analyst examined the scene, determining that the driver of the truck hadn’t seen the cyclist prior to the collision.

The driver remained on the scene, and had been one of the individuals providing first aid to the cyclist, and continued to cooperate with the investigation.

According to police, impairment and speed have been ruled out as factors in the collision.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information related to the collision that has yet to be shared with police, call Comox Valley RCMP at (250)338-1321.
