Online fundraiser launched for man who died in Shawnigan-Mill Bay shop fire

Car racer and mechanic Mike Noyce died tragically in a Shawnigan-Mill Bay shop fire last Friday, July 4th. 

Since his passing, a GoFundMe online fundraiser has been launched in order to help his family through this incredibly difficult time of grieving.

Noyce was known in the racing community as “Psycho,” as his driving skills were unrelenting at the former Western Speedway in Langford. 

According to Shawnigan Lake Fire Department, firefighters responded to the fire in Noyce’s workshop at around 3:50 a.m. to find the structure located at 1300-block of Deloume Road engulfed in flames. 

“His passing was sudden and heartbreaking, leaving his family, friends, and community in deep shock and sorrow,” reads the GoFundMe page set up by Noyce’s friends and family.  

“Mike was more than a friend—he was a devoted father, a loving friend and a man who would give the shirt off his back to help someone in need. He was known for his sense of humor, his big heart, and his love for his family, friends, and community.”

The fundraiser says that any funds raised will go toward funeral expenses, daily living costs and helping his loved ones begin to navigate life without him.

“If you are able to donate, any amount is deeply appreciated,” reads the fundraiser.  

“If you can’t donate, please consider sharing this campaign to help us reach others who may be able to support.”

As of this publication, the GoFundMe has raised just over $5,000 of its $18,000 goal.
