Nanaimo RCMP are asking for the public’s help identifying a man captured on surveillance footage throwing water at a teen and stealing a bicycle outside a Bowen Road McDonald’s.
The incident took place around 4 p.m. on Friday, July 4th, outside the McDonald’s at 1835 Bowen Road.
Two youths were sitting outside the restaurant when the man approached, threw a cup of water and then a jacket at one of them, and quickly grabbed a bright orange Devinci bike before taking off toward Dufferin Street.
The teens chased the man for a short distance but backed off when he allegedly threatened them. Police responded and searched the area, but were unable to locate the suspect or the bike at the time.
The stolen Devinci bike was recovered on July 7th, when a patrol officer was flagged down by a passerby who had it in their possession. The officer confirmed it was the same bike, and the grateful owner picked it up later that night from the detachment.
The suspect remains at large but is clearly seen in the attached surveillance footage. He is described as a Caucasian man, approximately 40 to 45 years old, with a medium build and a goatee. He was wearing a black “HONDA” t-shirt, a dark baseball cap, and blue jeans.
Anyone who recognizes the individual or has information is asked to contact Nanaimo RCMP’s non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
