MeeT on Blanshard announces closure after nearly three years in Victoria

After nearly three years of serving plant-based comfort food to the Victoria community, MeeT on Blanshard has announced it will be closing its doors at the end of August.

The popular Vancouver-based restaurant shared the news in an Instagram post on Wednesday morning, thanking locals for their support and encouraging diners to stop by in the coming weeks for one last visit.

“We’ve made the heartfelt decision to close our MeeT on Blanshard location at the end of August,” the post read.

“We’re incredibly grateful for the support you’ve shown us and the community we’ve had the privilege to be a part of.”

Staff were notified of the upcoming closure on Tuesday.

MeeT first opened its Victoria location in December 2022, taking over the former Boston Pizza space at the corner of Blanshard Street and Hillside Avenue.

It was the company’s first expansion outside of the Lower Mainland, following the success of its three locations in Vancouver.

In an interview with Victoria Buzz at the time, co-founder Jason Antony said the intersection’s central location was key to helping them integrate into the city.

“It’s probably one of the busiest intersections in Victoria,” said Antony in 2022. “As far as people knowing where we are, that part is amazing. As far as getting to it, it’s on bike, transit and car routes.”

MeeT quickly gained a loyal following in the capital for its elevated vegan and vegetarian dishes, including fan favourites like the Sweet-Chili Cauliflower, Mac N’ Cheez Burger, and extensive brunch menu.

While no official reason for the closure has been publicly shared, the MeeT team emphasized that this isn’t a final goodbye, but rather a chance to celebrate what they’ve built in the community.

“We’ll be here through the summer serving up your favourite comfort food, sharing memories, and celebrating everything we’ve built together,” the post continued.

“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you Victoria.”

The final day of service is expected to be sometime near the end of August. MeeT fans are encouraged to visit before then to enjoy one last meal and bid farewell to the team.

MeeT continues to operate its other restaurants in Vancouver, with no changes announced to those locations.
