A man is in custody and facing multiple charges after allegedly fleeing police and ramming a police vehicle in Sidney on Wednesday morning.
At around 10:04 a.m. on July 16th, Sidney/North Saanich RCMP received a report from a witness that a man was seen smoking from a bong while sitting in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle at a local business in Sidney.
When officers arrived, they found the vehicle still parked and initiated a traffic stop. Police say the driver suddenly reversed, striking a police cruiser, then hit the vehicle again while attempting to flee the scene.
Additional officers responded and attempted to block the vehicle from leaving, but the driver sped away.
With the help of neighbouring police agencies, officers began searching for the suspect.
At around 11 a.m., members of the Saanich Police Department located the vehicle in the Willis Point area. The driver allegedly tried to flee again by bypassing a police roadblock, but officers were able to safely arrest him.
