A second wildfire has been discovered along Nanaimo River Road, just around two kilometres away from another blaze that was discovered last week.
The latest fire was discovered on Sunday, July 27th, and is currently deemed to be ‘out of control’ by the BC Wildfire Service. The wildfire discovered last week has been updated to ‘under control.’
This out of control blaze is roughly two hectares in size and is currently being fought back by a team of four attack crews along with a helicopter attacking the blaze from above.
The cause of this wildfire is currently under investigation.
According to DriveBC, the two wildfires along Nanaimo River Road are having an impact on traffic, due to their close proximity to the roadway.
As of this publication, motorists passing through have to abide by single lane alternating traffic. Delays are to be expected.
Aside from these two blazes, there are currently four other wildfires burning on Vancouver Island, none of which have been determined to be out of control by BC Wildfire Service.
The largest of these is the Nahmint Mountain wildfire that was discovered back in early June and continues to burn on the slopes of the mountainside.
There is also one wildfire near Courtenay, one near Campbell River and one near Port Alice. All of these wildfires are considered to be under control.
In total, there are 66 wildfires burning throughout BC.
