There’s a new washroom and changing facility in Sidney near Beacon Park

The Town of Sidney has opened a new washroom in Seaport Park, near Beacon Park.

This new building, dubbed the Changing Places Facility, is said to offer a higher level of service than standard accessible washrooms.

It will support people with complex disabilities and their caregivers, including a height-adjustable adult change table, electric hoist and extra space for the caregivers.

The washroom also features four additional toilets, with two accessible stalls.

“Making Sidney more accessible is an ongoing priority for the Town of Sidney,” said Cliff McNeil-Smith, Mayor of Sidney.

“The way we design municipal infrastructure is a key opportunity to facilitate greater inclusion in the community. We want to ensure all community members and visitors can enjoy our beautiful downtown with comfort and dignity.”

Beacon Park is known for its influx of community events throughout the summer, and with the new washroom, attending will be more convenient than ever.

Plus, this facility’s location also aligns with the Waterfront Walkway, which is open year-round. Those out and about will also have access to the new washroom.

“It’s essential to have safe and accessible washrooms, especially for people with disabilities,” said Ravi Kahlon, Minister of Housing and Municipal Affairs.

“I’m happy to see the Town of Sidney using the Growing Community Fund to improve accessibility for its residents.

This project was funded by both the Government of Canada’s Enabling Accessibility Fund and the Province of BC’s Growing Communities Fund.
