After numerous reports were received, North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP are investigating a series of hate-related graffiti incidents in the downtown core of Duncan.
On Saturday, June 14th, police were told that there was antisemitic, anti-Indigneous and anti-2SLGBTQ+ graffiti spray-painted on the side of a building in the 100 block of Ingram Street.
The next day, two additional reports were received. The first is said to be similar graffiti, and was done on the exterior of a building located in the 300 block of Duncan Street.
The second report detailed offensive language spray painted on buildings located at 191 Ingram Street and 325 Jubilee Street.
Police have noted that all of these incidents occurred within close proximity to one another, and that the graffiti was removed quickly. .
“We take incidents involving hate-motivated messaging seriously,” said Cpl. James Grandy, BC RCMP spokesperson.
“Acts like this have no place in our communities, and we’re working to identify whoever is responsible.”
The investigation is ongoing, and police are asking anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the downtown core overnight on June 13th or 14th to contact North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP.
Similarly, if anyone has a dash camera or surveillance footage, contact RCMP.
