Nanaimo RCMP are investigating a collision after a pedestrian was struck and killed.
On Monday evening, emergency services responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a passing vehicle on Highway 19, just south of the Morden Road intersection.
Despite life-saving efforts, the pedestrian victim, an adult woman, couldn’t be saved and died at the scene.
Police were able to determine that the woman was attempting to cross over a barrier separating the north and south bound lanes when she was hit by the vehicle, which was travelling northbound.
The driver involved remained on scene and cooperated with the police. Neither alcohol or drugs are believed to be a factor in the collision.
Traffic was disrupted and re-routed for around four hours while investigators collected forensic and physical evidence.
The vehicle involved was towed and will undergo a mechanical inspection. Police say that the investigation is ongoing.
