This past weekend’s Sweet Street event at Westshore Town Centre was more than just another event—it was a reminder of why I love this community.
For the past four years, this event has grown into something pretty special, and once again, Victoria Buzz had the honour of partnering with the team behind it.
This year, I had the pleasure of manning our Buzz tent, while Seanna and Nicole worked their magic producing live content and showcasing all the incredible vendors (and worked the buzz tent). It was a full team effort, and honestly, a total blast from start to finish.
But let’s talk about the real stars of the day: you.
We all know outdoor events are at the mercy of the weather, and this weekend tried hard to test everyone’s spirits. The wind knocked down fences and damaged some pretty expensive tents. It wasn’t easy behind the scenes—but the organizers rallied fast, adjusted on the fly, and while we aren’t surpriised, still managed to pull off a fantastic event.
And Greater Victoria—you showed up. In record numbers. You came despite the wind, the rain, and the on-and-off weather, and you came with smiles on your faces.
I had the chance to say hello to so many of you who stopped by the Victoria Buzz tent—I swear it was in the thousands—and it was a great reminder of how strong, supportive, and connected this community really is.
In a time when local events are under pressure, your support truly matters.
Every smiling face, every bite of cotton candy, every vendor visit helps keep these experiences alive year after year.
Yes, we’ve lost a few beloved events recently—but with community support like this, they’ll return. And I know you’ll be there to welcome them back.
To the organizers of Sweet Street—huge congratulations and heartfelt thanks for your hard work and resilience. You gave this community something joyful to rally around.
And to everyone who came out—you helped make it a record-breaking day. Thank you for showing up and reminding us why we (and they) do what we do.
Here’s to many more events, and many more reasons to celebrate together.
