Nanaimo RCMP are investigating an alleged assault at Nanaimo’s North Town Center Mall which was prompted by a dog altercation.
The incident was reported to police at around 7:30 p.m., on Monday, June 16th, where witnesses said a woman’s off-leash dog ran aggressively at a man and his leashed dog.
The man reportedly stepped in to prevent his dog from getting hurt and kicked the woman’s dog. At this point, police say the woman tried to intervene, but the man pushed her to the ground.
When the woman got up, police say the man struck her head with his head, causing her to “crumple to the ground.”
Police say witnesses reported the suspect ran away after the altercation to look for his dog.
The witnesses who reported the incident to Nanaimo RCMP then stayed on the scene until police and paramedics arrived.
Police are now requesting the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect.
The suspect is described as a Caucasian man, between 35 and 45-years-old; with short, dark hair; and a stocky build.
Police note that at the time of the assault, he was wearing a red shirt and tan shorts. His dog is described as being a medium-sized white dog with black spots.
