Two celebrated downtown restaurants to close on June 1st with new ownership taking over

Two connected downtown cocktail bars and eateries, Hank’s * A Restaurant and Nowhere * A Restaurant, have announced they will be closing as of June 1st.

Hank’s and Nowhere were both known for their ever-changing menus, laid back atmosphere and exceptionally good food.

Their menus featured whole animal butchery, and the chefs worked very closely with local farmers and fish mongers to bring in unique ingredients and flavours.

In the most recent post on both Hank’s and Nowhere’s social media accounts, co-owner Clark Deutscher wrote “The End Of An Era, All Things Die.”

Deutscher announced in his brief post, simply that Hank’s “sold” and that the restaurant has a new owner coming in to do what he will with the space.

“June 1 Things change,” wrote Deutscher. “Mark’s your man now, show him some love.”

Along with Hank’s being sold, Deutscher continued by noting that all associated business endeavours will also be closing or operating very casually.

“Nowhere is Gone,” he wrote.

Ate *A Restaurant was the third entity connected with Hank’s that will also be impacted, although not as finitely as the other restaurants.

“Ate is at the markets without a physical location. Goodbye G2A. The Snack Bar Is Dead.”

Despite this sad news for Victoria’s culinary scene, Deutscher still wants to invite anyone who wants to, to come in for one last meal with them.

“So lets [sic] do one more event for old times sake. $100, all the food, classics from each of the restaurants. Next Wednesday and Thursday,” he wrote

“Oh and you have a couple weeks to come to the old spots, please do, we would love to see you.”

All three spaces were in the building on the northeast corner of Douglas and Broughton Streets.

At the time of this publication, it is unclear who the new owner is, or what his vision for the restaurants are.
