Get ready to feel the rush Sidney, the town is about to be taken over by two wheels and a whole lot of speed.
On Sunday, June 1st, nearly 250 cyclists will zip through the heart of Sidney during the inaugural Sidney Bikefest, a brand new event that’s part of the 2025 BC Road Cycling Championships.
This high-energy day marks the return of criterium racing to Sidney for the first time in over 15 years, and the streets will be fully transformed into a race-ready track.
From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., downtown will buzz with non-stop action as cyclists compete in the BC Criterium Championships on a closed 750-metre circuit.
The start and finish line is at Third Street and Beacon Avenue, and riders will loop through Bevan, 2nd, and 4th Avenues in a test of speed, endurance, and nerves.
Expect cheering crowds, fast corners, and a festival-like atmosphere as roughly 1,000 spectators are expected to take in the event. With categories ranging from youth to elite men and women, the lineup is stacked racing talent.
Sidney’s criterium caps off a weekend of racing that starts May 30th with a time trial in North Saanich near the Victoria International Airport, and a hilly road race in Metchosin on May 31st.
Organizers are encouraging residents and visitors to come out and cheer, soak up the energy, and experience what makes competitive cycling so thrilling. Road closures will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., so plan ahead if you’re driving downtown.
