One lot of Seasonique birth control pills has been recalled Canada-wide after some packages were discovered to be missing pills.
Health Canada issued the announcement on Friday, May 2nd after receiving a complaint that a package was missing two pills, which can increase the risk of pregnancy.
If you are a Seasonique user, check to ensure none of your pills are missing. The recalled lot number is 100058977.
Until you’re able to see a pharmacist, take the next pill in the proper order as noted in the packaging—don’t skip any doses or stop taking the medication.
If you missed a pill, use another method of non-hormonal birth control (such as condoms) and get in touch with your health care professional.
Health Canada advises that you get a replacement or alternative product as soon as possible.
For those unfamiliar with Seasonique, they are packaged in extended-cycle tablet dispensers, containing a 13-week supply of pills: 84 light blue-green tablets, and 7 yellow pills.
The missing pills in this case involved two of the light blue-green pills.

Users of this birth control can expect four periods a year, with bleeding occurring during the yellow pills.
Because these pills are to be taken daily and in the proper order, it’s important to adhere strictly to these instructions to prevent pregnancy and other side effects, including spotting and irregular bleeding.
Health Canada continues to monitor the company’s recall investigation, and have begun implementing corrective and preventive actions to ensure this doesn’t happen again.
