Police have released graphic surveillance footage of serious assault that occured in downtown Victoria last week.
The incident occured at around 5:30 p.m. on May 21st, near the northwest corner of the intersection of View Street and Douglas Street.
In the video, a man, dressed in dark clothing and a tan baseball cap, approaches the victim, who is seen backing away.
The man then punches the victim in the face before turning to walk away, appearing to put away a large knife he had been holding in his hand used to punch the victim.
The suspect is described as a Caucasian man of average build, wearing a tan baseball cap, a black and grey hooded shirt, blue jeans, and white shoes. After the assault, he was last seen walking westbound on View Street.
Police are urging anyone who recognizes the suspect or who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
Investigators are also requesting dashcam, cell phone, or security camera footage from the area of Douglas Street and View Street between 5 p.m. and 5:40 p.m. on May 21st.
The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
