Impaired tractor trailer driver stopped by Saanich Police on Pat Bay Highway

A commercial truck driver is off the road after Saanich Police stopped him for impaired driving while hauling a trailer through town last week.

On Monday, April 28th at around 9 p.m., police were reportedly told that a tractor trailer was driving erratically while going southbound on the Pat Bay Highway.

Officers were able to quickly locate the vehicle travelling eastbound on McKenzie Avenue and conducted a traffic stop.

Due to an allegedly strong smell of alcohol coming from the male driver,  officers administered two roadside breathalyzer tests, which both read ‘Fail.’

His driver’s license was immediately seized and he was given a 90-day driving prohibition.

The vehicle was transporting a commercial shipment, so the vehicle had to first be towed to its destination so the trailer could be delivered.

After the trailer drop-off, the tractor unit was impounded for 30 days.

“The Saanich Police Department are committed to keeping our roads safe and remind all drivers that impaired driving will not be tolerated,” a release reads.
