Looking for something fun, free and family-friendly to do this Mother’s Day weekend
Science Rendezvous Victoria returns this Saturday, May 10th, with two action-packed events at Camosun College and the University of Victoria — perfect for curious minds of all ages.
Running from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at both UVic and Camosun’s Interurban campus, this free festival brings together hands-on science demos, engaging activities, and interactive research displays covering everything from neuroscience to rocket launches.
At UVic, participants can launch bottle rockets, test out mobile EEG devices to see brain activity in real time, or explore the science of sound with underwater animal communication exhibits.
Ever wondered what sound a fish makes? You’ll find out.
Kids (and adults!) can get up close with everything from Arctic sea ice simulations to a quantum physics game show.
There’s even a visit to UVic’s Space Lab and Solar Observatory, and a chance to meet therapy dogs courtesy of the Pacific Animal Therapy Society.
Over at Camosun, highlights include building weather balloons, exploring civil engineering tech, and diving into biology and physics experiments in their AweSTEM Kids’ Zone.
The full schedule also includes psychology demos, light and wave experiments, and interactive exhibits focused on everything from skeletons to graphs and games.
A distraction-reduced environment will be offered at both venues from 9:30 to 10 a.m. for those needing a quieter space to explore.
While UVic’s on-campus dining hall The Cove will be open for breakfast and lunch, attendees heading to Camosun are encouraged to bring snacks, as food won’t be available on site.
Whether you’re a young inventor, a future astronaut, or just want to try something different before Mother’s Day dinner, Science Rendezvous offers a chance to learn, play, and discover together.
No registration is needed, and both locations are easily accessible by transit, bike, or car. Paid parking is available nearby.
