A 37-year-old man is off the road for 90 days after crashing his motorcycle on King George Terrace while allegedly impaired late Friday night.
Shortly after 11 p.m. on May 3rd, Oak Bay police were called to the 200-block of King George Terrace after a witness spotted a man lying on the ground next to a motorcycle with beer cans scattered nearby.
Investigators determined the rider had lost control heading into a bend, veered onto the sidewalk, and slid into a bush.
The man, who suffered only minor injuries and declined medical attention, provided a breath sample at the scene. The result triggered a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition and his motorcycle was towed away.
No other injuries or property damage were reported.
The incident was one of 72 calls for service Oak Bay Police responded to this week.
On April 30th, an officer conducting speed enforcement on Beach Drive clocked a vehicle travelling nearly 100 km/h in a 40 km/h zone. The driver was stopped, fined for excessive speed, and had their car impounded for seven days.
And on May 1st, police responded to the theft of a $16,000 Highfield dinghy and 20-horsepower Honda outboard motor.
Thanks to assistance from the RCMP, the vessel was recovered the following day after being found beached and abandoned at McNeill Bay. Officers tied the dinghy to an RCMP patrol boat and towed it to a secure location for the owner to retrieve.
