If you’re looking for the perfect May long weekend day trip, this is it.
Towering above the Saanich Inlet with sweeping views, winding walkways, and hidden surprises around every corner, the Malahat Skywalk is one of Vancouver Island’s most unique outdoor experiences and it’s the ideal way to kick off the season.
Just 35 minutes from downtown Victoria, the Skywalk is more than just a spiral tower. It’s a peaceful forest stroll, an outdoor art gallery, and an epic view spot all rolled into one.
And with warmer weather on the way and the trees in full bloom, now’s the time to visit.
Whether you’ve been before or are finally planning to check it off your list, here are 7 things you might not know about the Malahat Skywalk—and why this weekend might be the perfect time to go:
There’s a seasonal free shuttle from downtown Victoria
No car? No problem.
The Skywalk offers a free shuttle service from downtown Victoria during the warmer months, making it an easy half-day trip from the city.
It’s a relaxed and scenic ride up the Malahat, and one of the best ways to experience Vancouver Island’s coastal beauty—without the stress of driving.
More details on locations and times can be found here!

The Victoria shuttle service to the Malahat Skywalk operates on a walk-on basis, meaning reservations aren’t required ahead of time. You can simply arrive at the shuttle stop and board.
One of Vancouver Island’s most accessible outdoor attractions
The Malahat Skywalk is built for everyone, from toddlers in strollers to seniors with walkers. The entire elevated TreeWalk and Spiral Tower feature a smooth, gentle incline, so you can roll, walk, or stroll your way to the top without breaking a sweat.
There are designated wheelchair parking stalls, accessible washrooms, complimentary wheelchairs, and even mobility scooters available to rent seasonally. It’s one of the few places in BC where nearly anyone can access mountain-top views without a hike.

The driftwood animal sculptures are their own mini-adventure
Woven into the experience are incredible handcrafted sculptures made from salvaged driftwood by Vancouver Island artist Tanya Bub.
These larger-than-life animals—including a heron, bald eagle, cougar, owl, and wolf—are hidden throughout the grounds. Each represents a native species of the region, and there are even new additions this year for returning visitors to discover.
Make sure to search for them during your visit!

The eats are just as great as the views
Think this is just a lookout tower with a vending machine? Think again.
Depending on the season, you’ll find fresh tacos, sandwiches, espresso, and treats from local vendors—plus a relaxing patio where you can take it all in. Grab something pre- or post-walk and enjoy your snack with sweeping views.
Take a look at their food an beverage options before heading out.

It’s taller than it looks (and the views are next-level)
The gentle walk up the spiral makes it easy to forget how high you’re climbing, but once you hit the top, you’ll be 105 feet up, and standing more than 800 feet above sea level.
From there, take in panoramic views across Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands, and even Washington State on a clear day.

There’s a giant net you can lie on—suspended in the air
At the top of the tower, you’ll find the Adventure Net, a mesh hammock-style feature that lets you lay down and look straight through to the forest floor below.
It’s surprisingly peaceful (unless you have a fear of heights) and makes for a killer photo op.

The slide is fast, fun, and totally adult-friendly
Worried you’ll have to walk all the way back down? Skip the walk and take the 66-foot spiral slide that winds through the middle of the tower.
It’s quick, smooth, and open to adults, too—just make sure to follow the rules… and maybe don’t wear a skirt.

Whether you’re planning a family adventure, a tourist-friendly outing, or just a relaxing walk with an unbeatable view, the Malahat Skywalk is the perfect place to explore this May long weekend.
Grab your camera, your crew, and your sense of adventure—there’s more waiting up there than you think.
