VicPD have arrested a man who was allegedly using counterfeit cash to purchase items on Facebook Marketplace.

According to police, he possessed over $10,000 in fake currency and was using it to purchase things such as trading cards and electronics.

The first incident was reported on March 19th, when a person had sold $1,500 worth of Pokémon cards the day before.

Upon closer inspection of the cash, the seller realized the money was fake because of the odd texture, duplicate serial numbers and removable holographic security features.

The same man later attempted to buy another $2,700 worth of Pokémon cards from the seller, and she agreed to do the second transaction with the police ready to arrest the suspect upon arrival.

The man was arrested and $10,200 counterfeit money was recovered. Police suspect there are other victims linked to this seller.

Investigators have confirmed he was targeting trading cards and electronics sellers on Facebook Marketplace, and using the name “Lovedeep Dhillon”.
