Popular Sooke restaurant expands to Sidney with fresh look and flavour

Sidney just got a little tastier!

West Coast Grill, a well-loved staple in Sooke since 2014, has officially opened its second location—this time tucked away at Van Isle Marina (2320 Harbour Road).

Taking over the space previously home to Sea Glass Restaurant, the new eatery is already making waves with a revamped look, new menu, and strong community spirit.

Owned by Prestige Food and Beverage Ltd., West Coast Grill is the passion project of local restaurateurs Val Lessard and Paul Wallace, who also happen to call Sidney home.

“I love Sidney! Paul and I live here, and it’s always been my intention to grow the business on the Island,” Val told Victoria Buzz. “It’s such a friendly, welcoming, and vibrant community—I’m so happy to be a part of it.”

And this isn’t just a quick refresh of an old favourite. The team made major changes to the space, including a full kitchen renovation and a redesigned dining room aimed at giving guests a more relaxed, coastal experience.

One big improvement?

“We addressed the noise issues—we heard a lot about that,” Val added with a smile.

While Sea Glass regulars might feel a sense of nostalgia, they can expect a fresh take from the West Coast Grill team. From updated décor to a new menu rooted in “west coast cuisine with a flair,” the restaurant is serving up dishes that highlight local ingredients and seasonal selections.

Fan favourites include the signature West Coast Chowder, duck wings, salmon, and lingcod—a personal favourite of Val’s.

“It’s packed with flavour and made with local fish. So tasty!”

Behind the scenes, Executive Chef Adam Guther—who’s been with the Sooke location for over a decade—is the creative force behind the menu, while Chef de Cuisine Christian Bradford leads the Sidney kitchen.

According to Val, Christian brings a world of experience, quite literally, having recently come from a high-end dining background in Niagara Falls.

Open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., the team plans to roll out weekend breakfast service and already has happy hour from 2:30 to 5 p.m. on the books. And while a grand opening event hasn’t been officially announced yet, the welcome mat is clearly out.

Whether you’re popping in for date night, drinks with friends, or a celebratory dinner, the vibe at West Coast Grill is what you make it.

“Our guests set the mood,” Val said. “We’re just happy to be part of their moment.”

And what does Val hope people say after their first visit?

“Wow! I can’t wait to come back tomorrow…I’m gonna tell the world about this amazing place!”
