It was a hectic day on West Shore roads as RCMP officers responded to seven separate vehicle collisions in just 12 hours yesterday.

On Monday, April 29th, between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m., West Shore RCMP received 63 of their total 77 calls for service, with multiple incidents reported across Langford and Colwood.

Two of the crashes led to impaired driving investigations, while others involved injuries and property damage.

The day started with a two-vehicle collision at West Shore Parkway and Constellation Avenue at 9:41 a.m. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Shortly before 2 p.m., a hit-and-run was reported at the Millstream Village Shopping Centre after a vehicle struck and damaged a concrete block and fence before fleeing the scene.

Just after 4 p.m., a chain-reaction crash occurred in the 3100 block of the Trans Canada Highway involving three vehicles. A Mazda 3 was rear-ended by a Nissan Frontier, which was then hit from behind by a Honda CRV after traffic slowed abruptly.

Minutes later, a motorcycle carrying two people crashed in the 3000 block of the highway, believed to be related to the same traffic backup. Both riders suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Around 4:45 p.m., Colwood officers were called to Ocean Boulevard after a vehicle lost control while reversing, striking a parked vehicle and pushing it over an embankment and onto the beach. No one was hurt.

At 6:24 p.m., another three-vehicle collision unfolded in the 2900 block of the highway after an Audi A4 suddenly stopped in traffic. The driver of the Audi was found to be impaired and was handed a 90-day roadside prohibition and had their vehicle impounded for 30 days.

Finally, just before 9 p.m., police were called to the 2600 block of Sooke Road, where a pickup truck had ended up in a ditch. The driver, also showing signs of impairment, received the same penalties.

In response to the series of incidents, West Shore RCMP issued a reminder to drivers to keep a safe following distance and report any erratic behaviour to police as soon as it’s safe to do so.
