Cedar Hill Middle School alumni will have one last chance to poke around their old stomping grounds before they are no more.
This Saturday, April 26th, Cedar Hill Middle School will welcome anyone from the community to celebrate the 94-year-old school and take one last walk down its hallowed halls.
Some of the attendees who come to this event may even remember the school by its former name, Mount Doug Secondary School, which it was called between 1931 and 1970.
Following 1970, it was called Cedar Hill Junior Secondary School before its most recent name change to Cedar Hill Middle School in 2004, as the needs of the community changed.
“This is a great opportunity for alumni to take a final walk down the hallways of their former school before the building is dismantled in the fall,” said Maryanne Trofimuk, Principal of Cedar Hill Middle School.
“From the windows of this school, we’ve been able to see the progress of the new building come to life. We are very excited to make the transition to a more collaborative, modern, and seismically safe learning site.”
Those who want to, will have the opportunity to browse historical photos and memorabilia, leave a comment in the memory book and add names to the signature wall.
Additionally, those who purchased a limited-edition t-shirt prior to April 3rd will be able to pick up their shirts in the gym during the event.
“School staff have done a commendable amount of work to honour the building with a wonderful event,” said Stephen Monahan, Manager of Major Capital Projects.
“We are thrilled to be able to celebrate the history of this building by incorporating some existing elements, such as the stained-glass windows and the wooden bench seating, in the design of the new Cedar Hill Middle School.”
This celebration of life for the school will take place between 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday.
The new Cedar Hill Middle School facility will not be available to enter at this time as its construction is still underway.
The new school is slated to be completed by September, for the next school year.
