A serious collision involving four vehicles on the Trans Canada Highway near Thetis Lake late Wednesday afternoon has left two drivers in critical condition.

The crash occurred on March 12th, around 4:05 p.m., near the 6 Mile Rd exit, shutting down the highway for several hours.

The accident involved two pick-up trucks and two sedans, all of which sustained significant damage. One of the vehicles even ended up in the grass median between the north and southbound lanes.

Emergency services, including  West Shore RCMP, BC Emergency Health Services, and local fire departments from View Royal, Langford, and Colwood, were dispatched to the scene.

The RCMP Collision Reconstructionist team was also called in to help with the investigation.

Two of the drivers involved were rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, while the other two suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.

There were no passengers in any of the vehicles involved.

As emergency crews worked at the scene, the Trans Canada Highway was fully shut down in both directions, causing significant traffic delays for the remainder of the day.

The northbound lanes remained closed until just after midnight on March 13th, while one southbound lane was reopened by around 5:30 p.m. Emcon Road Services assisted with traffic control during the closures.

Although the cause of the collision has not been officially determined, police have ruled out impairment. They suspect that a sedan travelling southbound may have crossed over the median and collided with oncoming northbound traffic.

The investigation is still ongoing, and West Shore RCMP are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or anyone with dashcam footage from the area between 3:30 and 4:10 p.m. that day, to come forward.
