Get ready for a big summer in the Phillips Backyard!

This Wednesday, March 26th, the Phillips Backyard Festival Series announced their lineup, and it includes some of North America’s biggest acts you won’t want to miss.

The festival series is split up into two weekends and takes place over the course of two weekends in July and August.

The ‘Tilt!’ lineup for July 4th to 6th will see Cold War Kids, Unknown Mortal Orchestra and G-Easy headline the stage in Phillips Brewing’s backyard.

Cold War Kids is an indie-rock band from Long Beach, California, who have been active since 2004. They are known for their energy-infused, soulful sound that blends elements of blues and alternative rock.

Though they have not played in Victoria since Rifflandia 2011, they have played in Vancouver a couple times over the past few years.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra is a New Zealand-American psych-rock band that is known for their fusion of lo-fi, experimental rock, funk and electronic music.

G-Easy is an American rapper, singer and songwriter hailing from Oakland, California. He gained mass success with his 2011 mixtape The Endless Summer, and now has over 25 million monthly listeners on Spotify alone.

Other artists playing Tilt! include Snotty Nose Rez Kids, Haviah Mighty, Band of Skulls, Two Feet and Young Friend.

Additionally, this stacked lineup will be joined by local acts such as The Bankes Brothers, Neighbourly, Murge and Poncho.

Phillips Backyard’s ‘Reverb’ will take place from August 8th to 10th, and will be headlined by Peach Pit, Phantogram and The Roots.

Vancouver’s own Peach Pit are an indie-rock band known for their modest, mellow, jangly sound that has elements of pop, rock and surf music.

Peach Pit played at Phillips Backyard back in 2023 and has played Victoria more recently with a Capital Ballroom show earlier this year in February.

Phantogram is an electronic rock duo from New York who uniquely blend electronic, pop, rock and trip-hop. They have played a show in Victoria since 2016.

The Roots are a hip-hop band formed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by drummer Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson and rapper Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter. They have been active since 1987 and have become one of the biggest names in hip-hop by utilizing live instrumentation in their performances.

Other big names playing Reverb are Sombr, BØRNS, Dragonette, King Cruff and Danielle Ponder.

Additionally Mac Sabbath will be performing. They brand themselves as “drive-thru metal” and wear costumes reminiscent of the trademarked characters and mascots of McDonald’s, all while playing music similar to that of Black Sabbath.

Local acts playing at Reverb this year include Layten Kraymer, Vox Rea and Diamond Cafe.

The organizers of the Phillips Backyard Festival Series say that this year is about bringing things up, raising the stage, the good vibes and the fun times without having to raise the prices.

Tickets have not gone on sale yet for Tilt! or Reverb, but they will be soon.
