A serious multi-vehicle collision closed the Trans-Canada Highway in both directions near View Royal, prompting significant traffic delays during the Wednesday evening commute.
The crash occurred just after 4 p.m and one southbound lane has since been reopened.
West Shore RCMP confirmed they are on scene and that traffic is being rerouted via the Six Mile and Colwood exits while emergency crews respond.
Four vehicles were involved in the crash and several people are in serious or critical condition. There are unconfirmed reports of a fatality, however, this has not been confirmed.
Motorists are urged to avoid the area if possible and remain patient as first responders work to clear the scene.
No details have been released regarding potential injuries or the cause of the crash.
